Florida has many facilities for campers. Beginning in the 1920s motorists, pulling simple trailers, began to travel to Florida. Known as "tin can" tourists, they camped at sites throughout the state and presumably ate much of their food from cans. Today recreational vehicle sites as well as sites for tents are mostly concentrated in central Florida. Recently, Florida hiking trails have been greatly expanded, and there is a proposal to complete the Florida Trail, which would run the length of the state.
